NAIAD STABILIZER CONTROL SYSTEMS
ACTIVE ROLL STABILIZATION
Of the six degrees of freedom of a floating monohull, Roll is typically the most unpleasant. This is because the period of the waves at sea can easily coincide with the natural roll period of the vessel, causing roll to become uncomfortable and possibly dangerously magnified.
Stabilizing the roll rate (velocity) with our original HMG Controller
dampened most of the wave-induced motion that cause motion discomfort.
Further improvements in roll stabilization are obtained by combining roll
angle, roll rate and roll acceleration signals using the MultiSea II,
or DATUM Controllers. These controllers address very low frequency motions,
which typically occur in stern quartering and following seas. The MultiSea
II and DATUM also sense and correct rudder-induced heel and static list.
